Our Mission
Association JSG was set up in the name of Jean-Stéphane Grasset (1965-2009), who lived and worked in Mauritius for many years. The charity was created to pursue his projects to protect, nurture and support impoverished children and women in southern Mauritius.
Jean-Stéphane began supporting initiatives to protect and support underprivileged children and women in Asia, and then Mauritius, during his career in the hotel industry. Growing up by the Mediterranean sea, he developed a strong love of the sea and sailing, and he discovered a passion for kitesurfing once in Mauritius. He is survived by his wife and two children, whom he loved dearly.
"Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself."
- John Dewey
Current Projects:
Presently, we're looking to broaden our impact and build more partnerships with preschools, NGOs and charities in Mauritius.
Children and women there are still affected by illiteracy, limited access to education, sexual exploitation, HIV/AIDS, and poverty.
Together, we can change that.

Past projects
Preschool support for children affected by poverty and malnutrition - Ecole St Joseph
Many of the pupils attending this preschool
were undernourished, living in unsafe conditions rife with unemployment, alcoholism, drug abuse and other issues.
We provided funding for the entire school refurbishment, necessary school materials, supported community and holiday events, and provided daily nutritional meals.
Being supported in attending school created an escape from their difficult daily lives, where they could play, learn, and simply be kids in safety.
Literacy classes for parents
Centre d'Ecoute de Surinam
Iliterate adults struggle in society; even simple administrative tasks like filling in forms are challenging.
We supported groups of mothers and 2 fathers in learning to read and write from scratch, by hiring teachers, a learning space, and organising bi-weekly lessons.
Jean-Stéphane's
personal work
Jean Stéphane dedicated part of his
free time to philanthropy.
